Biometric Indian Passports

No Indian passports are not biometric and they do not contain any biometric features in the Passport itself. But recently, the Government has come out with biometric e-passports and this will be rolled out to ordinary Indian citizens soon! Government has issued nearly 20,000 diplomatic passports which are biometric as of now.

The new e-passports will be part of the Government’s new Passport Seva Programme V2.0 and will have an chip for enhanced security. The new passports will come with a chip that will store the holder’s biometric data, including their fingerprints and photograph. This enhanced security will make the passports more difficult to forge!
